This is a new blog so I’ll do a bit of recapping.
Novel Info: Ghosts That We Knew (Adult Commercial Fiction/Thriller; 80,000 words, Status – complete, querying agents)
I started writing my first novel at the end of 2012… Actually I’ve started many novels, so that’s not right. I started a novel in 2012 that I FINISHED. ha! I started with outlining at the end of 2012 and finished it in the Spring of 2013. I then started the process of editing and even shopping it to agents in the summer of 2013. Here is where I got sidetracked… I met with a few agents and a couple of them were very interested and even requested full manuscripts (this is kinda a big deal in the getting a novel published world). BUT… and this is a big but (are you singing the big butt song now? cause I am)… both agents wanted a few changes done to my manuscript. So I started rewriting a BIG part of the novel because of their feedback. Then I stopped. Because I realized I didn’t want to make those changes. I loved my book the way it had been written. I decided to take a break from it all for a few weeks and a few weeks turned into a few months. Then I lost the most updated copy of my novel due to a crash of my external hard drive (which I had specifically acquired so that I wouldn’t lose my novel!!!). That was end of 2013/beginning of 2014. At the beginning of 2014 the family and I decided we wanted to move to a new city so the great move of 2014 ensued. We moved late Spring and spent a couple months getting settled in to our new home, new neighborhood, new routines, etc. I spent an hour or so here and there tying up lose ends on the novel and rewriting the work that had been lost. Which brings us to summer of 2014… A couple months ago I started querying agents again. Querying means you “pitch” your novel to literary agencies. If they like your pitch they request to read your novel/manuscript and you send it to them. If they like the full manuscript then you start talking about publishing. It’s a LONG process. I queried 3 agents. Not gonna lie I totally sent it to the big agencies (think Stephen King, John Grisham, Gillian Flynn). I got a big fat NO from one of them and never heard from the other 2. Granted you are supposed to wait months and months but I’m going to assume they are passing on my project. The next step is I need to spend at least a day querying at least 5-10 more agents/agencies and then wait for their response.
In the meantime, I’ve started my second novel.
Weight of the World (working title): Young Adult Science Fiction; Status – outline complete, in progress
I’m still actively writing the above novel (when I have time). Hopefully over the next couple of weeks I can get my querying motivation up and get that done and have some updates. I’m also going to add a tab at the top with the latest Novel info and the first 3 chapters of my completed manuscript. I love feedback and I’m always happy to add readers to my circle if you are interested in the entire novel .
